God's Most Precious Gift

1. Have you come to a place in your life that you know for certain that you have eternal life and that you will go to heaven when you die?
The Bible says................. "These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life" (1 John 5:13)
Now I know for certain I have eternal life and when I die I'll go to heaven.  Let me ask you another question.
2. Suppose you were standing before God right now and He asked you, "Why should I let you into My heaven?"  What do you think you would say?
God loves us and has a purpose for our lives.
The Bible says it this way... "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."  (John 3:16)
God's purpose is that we have eternal life.

Gospel

  GOD'S PURPOSE
1. We receive eternal life as a free gift ........................ "The gift of God is eternal life though Jesus Christ our Lord"  (Rom. 6:23)
2. We can live a full and meaningful life right now ........ "I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly"  (John 10:10)
3 We will spend eternity with Jesus in heaven ............ "I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am you may be also"  (John 14:3)
  OUR NEED
1. We are all sinners buy nature and by choice ........... "For all have sinned and come short of the the glory of God" (Rom. 3:23)
2. We cannot save ourselves ............................. "Not of works, lest any man should boast" (Eph. 2:9)
3. We deserve death and hell ............................ "For the wages of sin is death"  (Rom. 6:23a)
God is holy and just and must punish sin, yet He loves us and has provided forgiveness for our sin.
Jesus said, . . .  ............................................. "I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man cometh unto the Father, but by me" (John 14:6)
  GOD'S PROVISION
1. Jesus is God and became man ....................... "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us."  (John1:1.14)
2. Jesus died for us on the cross ........................ "For Christ died once for our sins.  Just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God."  (1 Peter3:18)
3. Jesus was resurrected from the dead ............. "Jesus was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification"  (Rom. 4:25)
The only way Jesus can affect our lives is for us to receive Him
The Bible says .............................................. "But as many as received him, to them gave the power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name"  (John 1:12)
  OUR PURPOSE
1. We must repent of our sin ............................. "Repent ye therefore and be converted that your sins might be blotted out"  (Acts 3:19)
Repentance is not just feeling sorry for our sin... "Repent and turn to God and do work which gives evidence of repentance."  (Acts 26:20)
Repentance is turning to God through Jesus and away from our sin
Illustration:  Repentance is similar to what happens in the military when all the soldiers are marching in one direction and the command is given, "To the rear march."  Everyone turns immediately and marches in the opposite direction.  When we repent, we turn from our sin and turn to Jesus.
2. We must place our faith in Jesus .................... "For by grace are ye saved through faith: and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God."  (Eph.2:8)
Faith is not just believing facts about Jesus ..... "Thou believe that there is one God. Good! Even the devils also believe and tremble."  (Jas. 2:19)
  Faith is trusting in Jesus.
Illustration:  We can compare placing our faith in Jesus to making a trip on an airplane.  There are several things involved: you must have a ticket, you must get to the airport on time, and you must believe the plane will take you where you want to go.  But there is something else you must do to actual make the trip.  You will never make the trip until you trust the plane enough to board it. That is how you must respond to Jesus.  The only way Jesus can make a difference in your life is for you to totally trust Him.  For a long time I believed Jesus existed, but didn't make any difference in my life because I never did anything about it.  I believed about Jesus, but did not put my trust in Him.  I trusted myself.
3. We must surrender to Jesus as Lord .............. "That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.  For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved."  (Rom. 10:9-10)
Surrendering to Jesus as Lord is not just saying we give our lives to Jesus ............................................ "Not everyone who says to me 'Lord, Lord' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven."  (Matt. 7:21)
Surrendering to Jesus as Lord is giving Jesus control of our lives.
Illustration: Let me illustrate what it means to give Jesus control of our lives.  It's like driving down the highway with another person.  As long as you're driving you're in control.  If you realize you don't know the way, but the other person does, you might say, "You take the wheel and drive."  Then the other person is in control and the two of you take the route he chooses.  In the same way, we nust turn control over to Him and learn to go where He wants us to go.
As evidence of giving Jesus control, we will want to identify with him.  The New Testament way to confess Jesus publicly and to follow Him in baptism and church membership.

1. "Does what you have been reading make sense to you?
2. "Is there any reason why you would not be willing to receive God's gift of eternal life?"
"Are you willing to turn from your sin and place your faith in Jesus right now?"
TO RECEIVE JESUS, YOU MUST:
1. Repent of your sin.
2. Place your faith in Jesus.

Accept Jesus Christ as your Savior by praying this simple prayer:

Lord Jesus, I am a sinner. But I believe that you died upon
the cross for me. That you shed your precious blood for the
forgiveness of my sin. And I believe that on the third day, you
rose from the dead, and went to Heaven to prepare a place
for me. I accept you now as my Savior, my Lord, my God,
my friend. Come into my heart, Lord Jesus, and set me free
from my sin. And, because you are my Savior, Jesus,
"I shall not die, but have everlasting life".
Thank you Jesus!  Amen.

If you prayed that prayer on the authority of God's Word you have eternal life!

I John 5:13 says: I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may KNOW that you have eternal life.
